Pacific Crest Trail Extension: BC
The Pacific Crest Trail is a long-distance hiking trail that roughly follows the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges through California, Oregon, and Washington. Beginning on the U.S. - Mexico border, the trail covers over 4,000 kilometers of desert, forest, and high mountains before reaching the U.S. - Canada border. Thru hikers typically start on the trail in early spring when temperatures in the south are cool, making their way north as temperatures warm and snowpack melts. As a result, this trail is usually hiked in one direction.

Proposed Trail Extension
In an effort to make this a transboundary trail, we propose an extension of the trail northward into British Columbia. As the trail currently terminates in Manning Provincial Park, our proposed extension would continue through the rugged Coast Mountain Range, before finishing near the coastal town of Bella Coola. By employing the use of ArcGIS spatial mapping technology, we look to identify the most preferable and practical route to build this extension.
